In this class, we will introduce the dogs to the first odor, the essential oil of Birch.  We begin by pairing Birch with the dog’s primary reward of food/treats to create a positive association between the odor and the reward. During this course we will introduce the dogs to simple Container searches. Handlers will  learn how to read their dog’s body language when working scent. 

In this class, we will introduce the dogs to the remaining odors used by the NACSW and AKC (Anise , Clove and Cypress).

During this course we will utilize the dogs knowledge of simple Container and Interior searches and expand to exterior and vehicle searches. Handlers will continue to learn how to read their dog’s body language when working scent. 

Designed for experienced Nose Work teams, this class expands both the handler's and the dog's understanding of target odors used in NACSW® and AKC Scent Work. Training focuses on refining advanced search skills, developing effective handling strategies, and strengthening teamwork through increasingly complex search scenarios.

Teams will work on advanced odor problems, search tactics, independent problem-solving, and handling techniques, including off-leash searches when appropriate. Exercises are designed to challenge both dog and handler while building confidence, precision, and efficient search strategies across a variety of environments.

Exercises will encourage dogs to search with confidence, solve odor problems on their own, and remain committed to the search without relying on handler assistance. Handlers will learn when to support their dog—and, just as importantly, when to step back and allow the dog to work through scent challenges independently.

Teams will work through increasingly complex container search scenarios that may include larger search areas, multiple hide placements, blank containers, inaccessible and elevated hides, distractions, converging odor, and more intricate odor puzzles. Dogs will develop greater independence, precision, and commitment to source, while handlers refine their observation skills, search strategy, and confidence in recognizing and calling alerts.
